These synthetic hormones mimic the body’s own natural hormones oestrogen and progestogen. To renew your Sunya prescription online at DoktorABC complete our short medical questionnaire. Our GP will review your health profile to check whether Sunya is safe for you to use. If your prescription is approved our pharmacy will immediately process your order. Checkout prices include your prescription, Sunya pills and next day delivery by UPS courier.

Product information

What is Sunya?

Sunya is a combined pill that contains 20mcg Ethinyl Estradiol (oestrogen) and 75mcg Gestodene (progestogen). The use of synthetic hormones means that you receive a precise, standard quality dosage.

Doctors will usually consider prescribing Sunya to healthy women of childbearing age. If you are oestrogen intolerant, seriously overweight, or a heavy smoker over the age of 35, this pill is not recommended for you.

Sunya may help to ease PMS and period pains, while lightening heavy menstrual bleeding.

How to take Sunya

Sunya is a monophasic pill supplied in calendar strips of 21 pills. Each individual blister pack is labeled with a day of the week. Take each pill on the appropriate day for a total of 21 days, when the strip will be finished.

Then take a complete break from pills for 7 days. On the 8th day begin a new 21 pill memo strip.

You may experience some vaginal bleeding similar to menstruation during each 7 day break. It is important to start a new strip of 21 pills on the 8th day, even if you are bleeding.

Important for first time use:

You must take the pill daily, starting on the first day of your menstrual cycle for effective protection against pregnancy.

Who can use Sunya?

Doctors may approve Sunya for any sufficiently healthy woman who is not oestrogen intolerant.

Sunya may reduce the likelihood of cancer of the ovaries, womb and colon, and may alleviate PMS, period pains and heavy menstrual bleeding.

As soon as you fill in our short medical questionnaire, an online GP will immediately check that Sunya is the healthiest birth control option for you.

If you are overweight (BMI 35+) or a heavy smoker over the age of 35, your GP may offer you a mini pill as a safer alternative.

Please read the Side Effects section for full information about whether Sunya is suitable for you.

What is the dosage of Sunya?

Sunya contains two synthetic hormones in the following dosages:

Ethinyl Estradiol (oestrogen) 20mcg

Gestodene (progestogen) 75mcg

Used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and medical advice, Sunya will offer approximately 99% protection against unwanted pregnancy.

Sunya works in a similar way to the combined pill Mercilon that also contains Ethinyl Estradiol and Gestodene. Mercilon however, contains twice as much Gestodene. This combination of hormones (in various doses) has been used in birth control for over 50 years.

What if I forget to take my Sunya Pill?

Less than 12 hours late

Take each daily pill at approximately the same time every day. If you forget to take a daily pill - and you are no more than 12 hours late - simply take the pill as soon as you can. There should be no risk of becoming pregnant, and it is not a problem if you take two pills in a single day.

More than 12 hours late

If you are more than 12 hours late, protection is not guaranteed any longer and you should use an additional contraceptive. Make sure to read the manufacturer's instructions, so you will know, depending on which stage you are in your menstrual cycle, what to do. Keep taking the pill till the end of your menstrual cycle.

If you forget to take more than one pill from a single strip you should consult our doctor immediately.

What are the side effects of Sunya?

The majority of women who follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and doctor’s advice exactly are unlikely to experience any unwelcome side effects when using Sunya.

However, as with any prescription medicine, it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with possible side effects before you take Sunya pills.

Can I use Sunya if I smoke?

Smoking is not recommended when you take Sunya. If you are over 35 years old and smoke more than 15 cigarettes a day, this poses a serious risk to your health. Possible serious side effects may include strokes and blood clots.

Possible common side effects

Most patients who use Sunya correctly do not experience any significant side effects. However, the following common side effects may still occur in some users:

  • Depression or mood changes
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Breast tenderness
  • Weight gain

Possible adverse reactions

Very rarely patients may experience an adverse reaction to Sunya. If you experience any of the following symptoms, you should discontinue your treatment and seek immediate medical advice.

  • High blood pressure
  • Thrombosis
  • Breast cancer

  • Aged 35 + and a heavy smoker
  • Vulnerable to thrombosis
